Namm 2009 News
The New Year begins with the winter Namm Show. This industry music show provides manufactures with an outlet to show off their new gear. For the Cajon drummer there were some innovative new products released.
Fresh out of the gates for the Namm show was Tycoon Percussion who announced their new e-cajon. The Cajon is said to include it’s own pickup, amp and speaker. This give the player a volume boost and the addition of a volume jack means you can plug in an ipod and play along with your top tracks. Image
Pearl is a huge supplier of drums and percussion. On the Cajon front they had a few new products on show.
Making the biggest splash was the new Jingle Cajon this Fiberglass Cajon uses two tambourine style jingles at the bottom of the playing surface. The nice things about the design is that the tension on the jingles can be adjusted to open or close the sound and the jingles are both different sizes to provide sonic variation.
Next up is the their Travel Cajon. This can be strapped to your leg or placed on a stand to offer portable Cajon playing. It’s similar to their travel Conga which was well reviewed.
These can both be spotted at the end of this video.
Finally the Pearl Tri Tone Cajon was released which is a Conga style Cajon and part of the Jesus Diaz range. It has an added snare for snare sound that can be turned on or off giving two tones. The third of the tones is delivered by turning the drum on its side and using the bottom as a playing surface.
Welcome to Cajon Drumming
This site is all abot the Cajon and my experiences playing it. The Cajon is a small box type drum originating from Peru. It has been used in music of all styles and especially flamenco. The Cajon is great for those small acoustic gigs where a full drum can take up half the venue. For more background Wikipedia has some great info here.
